First Solar (FSLR.US), the largest solar panel manufacturer in the United States, plans to spend $1.1 billion to build a factory in Alabama, USA, which is a major investment after the landmark climate law was passed. The plant is expected to be put into operation in 2025, with an annual production capacity of 3.5 GW of components.
The southern and midwestern states of the United States continue to win new investments in solar energy, batteries and electric vehicles. Although no Republican in Congress supports the climate bill signed by Biden before, Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio, led by the Republican Party, have been seeking to build clean energy plants.
First Solar said in August that it would invest about $1.2 billion in the United States to expand production. Last month, the company also announced plans to invest $270 million to build an R&D center in Ohio.
