According to today's think tank, Germany announced on May 6th last year that it would further raise its emission reduction target. In 2030, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 65% compared with 1990, which is higher than the EU's 55% emission reduction target. The time to achieve net zero emission, that is, carbon neutrality, will also be advanced from 2050 to 2045.
The key reason why Germany changed the goal of "carbon neutrality" of its energy system this time is the energy shortage caused by Russia-Ukraine conflict. At present, coal power accounts for about 27% of the total power generation in Germany, and natural gas accounts for about 15%. This plan gradually replaces coal for power generation by importing more Russian natural gas, but now "Beixi -2" is nowhere in sight, and "Beixi -1" has entered the annual maintenance period. The coal-electricity replacement plan is estimated to be ruined.
Natural gas is tight, and Germany has to restart coal-fired power. Last month, Germany announced that it would put the sealed 10Gw of "high pollution" coal-fired power capacity back into the grid, and this "temporary recovery" will take about two years. This time, Germany changed the goal of "carbon neutrality" of its energy system, in order to leave a living space for coal-fired power.
Today, think tanks believe that with the escalating sanctions imposed on Russia by the West, the shortage of natural gas in those countries that follow will become a long-term problem. Coal-fired power, once called "high pollution", is on the rise not only in Germany, but also in the West, including Japan and South Korea. The global coal industry may usher in a new development period. It is suggested that domestic enterprises and traders can pay more attention to this opportunity, and selling coal to Europe will be a new business opportunity.
